Some people merely come to Orlando; others are called. In the latter category is Ghizlane El Fazazi, who foreshadowed her own future by studying Tourism and Hospitality Management at the International Superior Institute of Tourism (ISITT) in her native Morocco. After signing up for the International Student Exchange program, she was brought here to represent her country at EPCOT – and realized she had found her place.

“What’s not to love?” she asks. “The best parks. The best weather! The best place to raise a family! Soon I got married and set roots here. This is home and I love it!”

She’s certainly stayed busy here. She founded a small business, Discount Beauty Supply, then turned her attention to pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Central Florida. And somehow along the way she’s found time to volunteer with numerous organizations, including the Arab-American Community Center, which named her its social services director in 2018. Advocacy for domestic violence victims and refugees is another passion she exercises by partnering with a wide range of community agencies.

When she finally returns home after all that activity, she finds comfort in the traditions of her motherland.

“When you walk in my home, you will see Moroccan furniture, accessories and paintings everywhere,” she says. “You will also smell the distinguished aroma of Moroccan cuisine. I am no chef but I make my mama proud!”
