Join in with the beguiling beat of inviting rhythms – African drums, Chinese pipa, Scottish bagpipes, American blues guitar, Indian sitar, French accordion, Mexican pan flutes – the music you love that comes from your heritage. We delight to include instruments some might never have seen as well as familiar tunes you grew up with. Create a new work in the FusionFest Contest that blends elements from different parts of the world.

Fusion Contest

Heritage

  • The rhythms, melodies and sounds of our heritage ignite the pride and passions from our roots.
  • FusionFest is designed to allow the audience to “sample their way around the world”.  Performances are short samples usually of 10 to 12 minutes. Performers have a total of 15  minutes to enter the stage and set up, perform, and clear the stage. We found this format encourages the audience to stick around longer to see what is next.
  • Each performer receives a chance to win 2 tickets to fly anywhere in the world.
  • Each performance group receives a stipend of between $50 and $100 to cover incidentals.
  • Water and a small dressing area is provided, but shared with other groups.

Deadlines

  • Intent to Participate: August 1, 2019
  • Curating (further information may be needed): month of August
  • Acceptance Notification:  September 1, 2019
  • Final Promotional Materials Due: September 15, 2019
  • Festival Hours:  Saturday, November 30, Noon – 9:00 pm, Sunday, December 1, Noon – 5:00 pm

The Show

We would love to schedule each performance more than once during the two days, but availability of time slots and of your performers may dictate whether that can happen.
