Portraits of FusionFest
A series of 22 photographs
depicting portraits of Central Florida residents,
captured by humanitarian photographer Juan David Tena.
The images in Portraits of FusionFest were captured during FusionFest’s 2023 & 2024 Annual Multicultural Festivals, and attests to the vibrant diversity of the local population.
Tena’s photographic practice weaves together the diverse elements of the sitters’ culture and that of Central Florida, showcasing the vibrant connections that thrive within the local community. At its core, FusionFest is a cultural pinnacle in Central Florida celebrated through Tena’s work as a testament to unity, culture, and the indomitable spirit defining this festival. Each image serves as a brushstroke on the canvas of Central Florida’s extraordinary diversity, painting a vivid picture of the global tapestry present in the region. The pictures, taken over two days, were pro bono portraits that elicited strong emotions among the participants. Each session was an opportunity for visceral human connection and immortalizing the lives of people who often feel unrepresented. Each photograph championed and honored the subject as an ambassador to their cultures and to the nations of their birth. Portraits of FusionFest transcends being just an artistic endeavor; it becomes a declaration that diversity isn’t merely a facet but the essence of our strength as a nation.
