Simona Wiig is a multimedia artist living and working in Orlando, Florida. She graduated with a B.F.A. in Studio Art with a concentration in sculpture and ceramics from the University of Central Florida in May 2021. Currently, her work investigates the experience of living in a liminal space as a Third Culture Kid (TCK), and the tension that lies in both an eternal and ephemeral sense of home and belonging. She published an Undergraduate Thesis with the Burnett Honors College, and her work has been exhibited at the Anita S. Wooten Gallery at Valencia College, in a Women’s History Month exhibition at the UCF Library, the UCF Gallery, and at CityArts in Orlando, Florida.

My creative practice draws from my multicultural upbringing, memory, and spiritual practices to make tangible liminal spaces. These spaces function as shelters where I can experience a temporary sense of belonging as I wait for a permanent, eternal home after death. Inspired by the bowerbird’s methods of shelter-making, the Feast of Tabernacles, and the work of artists such as Do Ho Suh and Andy Goldsworthy, my practice includes a range of media including printmaking, bookbinding, painting, ceramics, and sculpture. The intention of my work is to provide a sense of shelter and safety both for myself and for viewers who feel an innate desire for belonging in an ephemeral world.
